Study-friendly cafés in Leeds

With deadlines fast approaching you’ll probably find yourself spending more and more time in the library. However, sometimes the libraries can get really busy or you may just want a change of scenery. This blogs takes you through a range of study-friendly cafés in Headingley, Hyde Park and Leeds city centre — all ideal for students.

The Bowery Headingley

Location: 54 Otley Road, Headingley. LS6 2AL

Opening hours: Monday-Sunday 09:00–17:00

This café is located along Otley Road in Headingley and boasts a wide selection of yummy food and good coffee to power you through those study sessions. There is also an upstairs space in the gallery which is great if you want to work with friends or The Bowery host a range of workshops too which take place here, if you fancy getting creative.

Hyde Park Book Club

Location: 27–29 Headingley Lane, Leeds. LS6 1BL

Opening hours: Monday-Sunday 09:00–00:00

Hyde Park Book Club is located (you guessed it) in Hyde Park, which is ideal as it is within walking distance for most students. It is a vegetarian café and deli which has an extensive and affordable menu. It also has a range of books and board games if you fancy a break from your studying as well as a range of plants.

Wolføx

Location: 66–68 Wellington Street

Opening hours: Monday-Friday 08:00–16:00, weekends 09:00–16:00

Wolføx is located near to Leeds train station and boasts the most amazing açai bowls as well as a range of healthy and natural food which is sourced predominantly from local producers. On weekdays this café opens at 8am, which is great if you fancy an early morning study session.

Santander Work Café

Location: 10 Park Row, Leeds. LS1 5HD

Opening hours: Monday-Friday 09:00–16:30

You don’t need to be a Santander customer to use this space, but if you are a cardholder then you can benefit from 30% off coffee. The café also offers free, fibre-optic WiFi as well as free, bookable meeting rooms. It is located in central Leeds on Park Row.

Left Bank

Location: Cardigan Road, Burley, Leeds. LS6 1LJ

Opening hours: Monday-Friday 09:00–17:00, weekends 11.00–16:00

Left Bank is a Grade II listed chapel, and an incredibly beautiful space to work in, and contains a café where you can get coffee, snacks and cakes, with lots of vegetarian and vegan-friendly food options.

Left Bank is located on Cardigan Road which is a short walk for many University students. This venue is also a popular location for events, so double check on their website what’s on before going.

Laynes Espresso

Location: 16 New Station Street, Leeds

Opening hours: Monday-Friday 07:30–15:00, Saturday 08:00–18:00, Sunday 09:00–16:00

This café is ideal if you’re a student at the university who lives in the city centre or commutes by train, as it’s right by Leeds train station. It’s super easy to find thanks to the bright yellow shop front! This café is independently run and offers a great breakfast and brunch.

Fika North

Location: 94 Otley Road, Headingley, Leeds. LS6 4BA

Opening hours: Monday-Thursday 08:00–16:00, Friday 08:00–17:00, Saturday and Sunday 09:00–17:00

Fika is a Swedish word and means ‘a moment to slow down and appreciate the good things in life’ so if you need to de-stress then this cute and cosy coffee shop is the place for you.

Fika North is located in Far Headingley, it serves a range of healthy bagels and provides excellent coffee. There is also sufficient working space but during peak times, such as weekends, it may be harder to work in here as it’s quite small.
