Final year student Phoebe Green shares her favourite study friendly cafés in Leeds.

With deadlines fast approaching you will probably find yourself (sadly) spending increasingly more time in the library. However, sometimes the libraries can get really busy and it is important to have a change of scenery, which is why I have put together this blog about study friendly cafés in Headingley, Hyde Park area and Leeds city centre, all of which have been carefully considered to accommodate for students and their laptops and notebooks.

The Bowery Headingley

Location: 54 Otley Road, Headingley. LS6 2AL

Opening hours: Monday-Sunday 09:00–17:00

This café is located along Otley Road in Headingley and boasts a wide selection of yummy food and good coffee to power you through those study sessions. There is also an upstairs space in the gallery which is great if you want to work with friends or The Bowery host a range of workshops too which take place here, if you fancy getting creative.

You don’t need to be a Santander customer to use this space, but if you are a cardholder then you can benefit from 30% off coffee. The café also offers free, fibre-optic WiFi as well as free, bookable meeting rooms. It is located in central Leeds on Park Row.

Left Bank

Location: Cardigan Road, Burley, Leeds. LS6 1LJ

Left Bank is a Grade II listed chapel, and an incredibly beautiful space to work, and contains a café where you can get coffee, snacks and cakes, as well as there being lots of vegetarian and vegan-friendly food options. There is lots of room for all of your belongings. Left Bank is located on Cardigan Road which is a short walk for many University students. This venue is also a popular location for events, so double check on their website what is on before going.

Laynes Espresso

Location: 16 New Station Street, Leeds

Opening hours: Monday-Friday 07:30–15:00, Saturday 08:00–18:00, Sunday 09:00–16:00

This café is ideal if you are a student at the university who lives in the city centre or commutes by train, as it is right by Leeds train station. It is super easy to find thanks to the bright yellow shop front. This café is independently run and offers a great breakfast and brunch.

Fika North

Location: 94 Otley Road, Headingley, Leeds. LS6 4BA

Opening hours: Monday-Thursday 08:00–16:00, Friday 08:00–17:00, Saturday and Sunday 09:00–17:00

Fika is a Sweedish word and means ‘a moment to slow down and appreciate the good things in life’ so if you are in need of a ‘de-stress’ then this cute and cosy coffee shop is the place for you. Fika North is located in Far Headingley, it serves a range of healthy bagels and provides excellent coffee, there is also sufficient working space but during peak times such as weekends it is not advised to work here as it is very small.
