As an international student, the cost of education can be particularly high. Tuition fees, living expenses, and other financial obligations can add up quickly. One of the reasons I looked for a part-time job was to manage these expenses and reduce the burden of student loans. Having a second source of income is a big factor in helping to reduce financial strain. Another, reason was to gain real-world experience and develop essential skills which would be required in the future.

The process of finding a job can be overwhelming. LUU provides many resources such as Joblink which connects students with great paid job opportunities to support their studies. They have a range of opportunities from part-time to casual hours that suit your needs. I personally choose to apply for part-time work which best suits my interests.

As a Digital Education Service Student Ambassador, I found that the role perfectly complemented my field of study in Engineering & Physical Sciences. The position offered me a range of different opportunities and varied tasks including reviewing, testing and networking.

However, juggling work commitments and academic responsibilities can be challenging. There are times when you have to manage a specific coursework deadline alongside work responsibilities and suddenly your work schedule begins to feel very overwhelming. Setting priorities, time management skills, and striking a good work-life balance can help to resolve these issues.

There are numerous benefits to having a part-time job. You can gain valuable skills in time management, communication and customer service, as well as the opportunity to network with a diverse range of people, gaining real-world experience and increasing your employability.

Balancing part-time work alongside full time study is challenging but achievable. Before beginning your search for a part-time job, consider your academic workload, personal capabilities, and general well-being. A part-time job should support your academic endeavours so make sure you are aware of how the work may affect your studies, and always keep in mind that your degree and your overall well-being should come first.
