Jack had always planned to study at university, but personal setbacks forced him to seek alternative paths. After researching online, he chose Business Studies with a Foundation Year at Leeds.

I’ve always felt a special connection to Leeds, and the Business Studies with Foundation Year course, taught by the Lifelong Learning Centre, gave me the opportunity to succeed.

I got all the support I needed to make the most of my time at Leeds, and this summer I’ll be graduating from Leeds University Business School.

My mentor, David, Programme Manager for the Business Studies Foundation Year, supported me throughout my university experience.

He called before I started to welcome me onto the course and he’s been with me all the way. He’s even coming to my graduation.

Offering an extra year of university study, the Foundation Year at the Lifelong Learning Centre provided me with invaluable support. I truly felt like it bridged the gap between school and university.

With the smaller class sizes and unwavering support from lecturers, I always felt seen and heard.

Access to dedicated study spaces and guidance from tutors helped me transition smoothly. With tailored modules focusing on academic, digital, and professional skills, I gained confidence for degree-level study. The supportive environment was instrumental in my success.

Becoming the president of the University’s Japanese Jiu Jitsu society

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my journey as a student at the University, making the most of all the different opportunities it offers.

It was through the University’s Japanese Jiu Jitsu society that I found a vibrant community, always up for a good laugh.

Taking on the role of president within this team allowed me to cultivate confidence and leadership skills within the University community.

Reflecting on my journey, the Foundation Year has been a cornerstone of my personal and academic growth. Its invaluable opportunities have left a lasting impact, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to others.

The Lifelong Learning Centre is home to the University’s specialist teaching and support for mature, part-time and foundation year students.
